WORDPRESS: TROPHY CASE

WordPress Trophy Case RawMultimedia Richardo Wilson Image

I love WordPress’s new feature of the “Trophy Case” on their wordpress.com blogs and websites.  It’s a really great feature to highlight your accomplishments and celebrate your blog.  Did you see yours as yet?  Being a part of a community of bloggers and reading and growing with them is a beautiful thing to do, whether it’s career related, a project, a hobby or more.

On WordPress sharing, liking and commenting is encouraged just as it is to write and be as creative as you want to be.  So why not make you blog or website public and watch your trophy case fill up?  I am just a passionate writer and blogger who enjoys living and seeing the what the world has to offer from the small upcoming blogger to some of the biggest brands out there.

I have been blogging for over 10 years and I love the opportunity to interact and express my thoughts & opinions.  I have found a home on WordPress soon to be 5 years ago, and kept writing and improving and never looked back.  So to everyone writing and/or aspiring to write, just start today and remember this, “Read, Write, Enjoy…“.

If you haven’t got a blog as yet, consider getting one at http://www.wordpress.com and join the greatest blogging community in the world (at least to me and many others).

A Lesson in SEO and Web Design

you are a noob

you are a noob

Just recently I have been searching for a better way to tag and help guide new visitors to my blog and website, and realized I have been doing quite a few backwards thinking.  I have been thinking about all the shiny things like views, ad revenues (though I don’t have any), and subscribers, but forgetting the key elements of good content.

It’s not like I have been this way before, but sometimes you mind tend to linger and you seem to get greedy and want things too fast and a whole lot of it.  I been tagging and writing good content on my blog for a great deal of 2010 and 2011, and usually saw a great deal of improvement from it, but since October – December I saw a very steady decline and wonder how I can revamp my blog and website.

So like a noob (well a person who needs to learn better to excel and be a pro) I went to  google my ultimate teacher of information and researched some quality terms and information to  help bring me back to my normal way of thinking.

Here are the results I have learned:

1. Write Great Quality Useful Content
1.1 If you are a blogger/journalist/writer, write unique, honest, interesting stories and content
2. Don’t follow others (noobs) on the internet
3. Use good visual aids (Photos and Videos) that reflect what you are writing about
4. Write a < TITLE> < /TITLE> tag for each page that accurately describes that page
5. Link to quality relevant sites (Mashable, Wikipedia, and specific titled pages)
6. Don’t you dare SPAM tags
7. Create quick loading pages
8. Beware of broken links and lack of readable content of each page (including drop down menus, don’t use JavaScript or Flash links exclusively) be sure to add < A HREF> links to your body copy of text

My New Learned Lesson

9. Using 1 word keyword and tags is too broad and SUPER competitive (Think of 2-4 or more word keywords, tags and phrases) and aim for popular terms and trends
9.1 When tagging and aiming for better page ranks, optimize your “META description tag”  (This is what most search engine look for to represent your site)
10. Remember to share more using at least 3-7 sites consistently like (StumbleUpon, Reddit, Twitter, Delicious, Facebook, Digg, Technorati and others)
10.1 When writing your body copy text aim for 1000 words or more, but nothing fewer than 250 words

BONUS:

11. Comment on similar quality content sites such as your own
12. Join a community in your most talked about topic (Great way to meet others, and other to check you out if you provide quality comments and information)
13. Do write regularly (Create a schedule, 2-3 times per week shall do you just fine)
14. Write attractive and Catchy (HONEST) titles
15. Make sure you tell your friends about it and Network and make new friends

Most of these I practice daily and advise my friends, peers, and even random strangers, but for me I forgot what I was doing for a season and missed one major lesson, if you built it right, they will come.  You must remember, they may not come as soon as you want, but the pay off later will be greater and can me maintained.

A great site I rediscovered is:  http://websitehelpers.com
Tons of great quality info.

not a noob

Happy Holidays, and good luck building.

Do you have any specific questions on SEO and Web Design?  Have you been lusting for views, comments, subscribers, page rank and more?

Shoot me a comment or tweet and let me know your thoughts and opinions…

PS: I wasn’t really trying to get more views via my blog, I was mostly testing how to make my videos more viewable to a boarder audience using my blog then relying on youtube for it’s view.  I am still learning.

To Be “Freshly Pressed” by @WordPress @WordPressdotcom

I almost cried when I saw that I am “Freshly Pressed” on WordPress.  I was so excited.  I didn’t know what to expect from being on the front page and the #1 spot out of anything else.  To many it may seem as a big deal because they only want to have fame from being “Freshly Pressed“, but my reasons for being excited was I have been blogging for over 4 years on wordpress.com and being blogging ever since 2000 in total when people have never really knew what blogging was.

As of December 2010 I decided to set on the journey to be one of the BEST bloggers in the Blog-O-Sphere and never look back at my average posts as I use to do.  I wanted to be more personal, more creative, more interactive and more social with everyone.  So I decided to put my life in the everything I do.  This was the why I held my WordPress Blog and My YouTube Channel as my top priority and I said I am going to do it and never stop.

Thanks to WordPress and it’s motivational and inspirational goal to help bloggers by creating the challenge “PostADay2011” and “PostAWeek2011” I was definitely hype to get on board and grow as a blogger and challenge myself to produce great content.  So I started doing “PostADay2011” and set my goal to be featured one day on “Freshly Pressed” in 2011 as of January 2011.  I wrote everyday and posted everyday to make sure I on top of this challenge and NEVER FAIL.  I was a bit discouraged that others were being featured and I felt I was writing great content, but I said to myself that me writing blogs and content is NOT for FAME, it’s about doing me and enjoying what I do everyday no matter if anyone ever sees it.  I loved blogging and I ready to set my progress.  Also I was always helpful and spreading the good word and tools that WordPress offered.  The best advice I could give to everyone, was START TODAY and JUST DO IT and NEVER STOP or LOOK BACK (only to reflect from where you are coming from).  So after 6 months going on 7 months I reached to where I am now, Freshly Pressed and one of my GOALS to MYSELF in 2011 accomplished by being featured on the main page.

There is only one thing that can express my feelings to being “Freshly Pressed” and that’s just a BIG O SMILE.

I want to thank WordPress first and foremost and EVERYONE who visited my blog and left a comment with kind words and even to others who have subscribed and have asked a great deal of questions.  I am very thankful for the support and the love.

I wish everyone luck on blogging and hope you follow the post and the extremely great tip of just remembering your audience and making sure you comment on others blogs and make sure you reply to whom have commented on your blog.

Remember my BEST ADVICE TO YOU:

“START TODAY and JUST DO IT and NEVER STOP or LOOK BACK
