Ever since I seen this option on Facebook and people using it I was confused. What the hell is an open-relationship? What does it even mean. It actually to me makes absolutely makes no sense. I think we as people are so obsess with labels and titles. I guess out of trying to find a definition and meaning of something, out comes names and stupidity. To me, it’s either you are in a relationship or out of one. When has there been a word for a translational move from a relationship into a no so relationship?
According to Wikipedia, an open-relationship definition is: “An open relationship is a relationship in which the people involved agree that they want to be together, but in which romantic or sexual relationships with additional people are accepted, permitted or tolerated. To large degree this is a generalization of the concept of open marriage beyond matrimonial relationships.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_relationship
But in the end does this even really makes sense? Have you ever or have a friend be in an open-relationship and see it at work? Is there rules?
Thanks for reading

I have seen many open relationships work. When looking at it from a per relationship it even seems like a much more possible thing than a closed or monogamous relationship.
People seem to crash and burn in monogamy constantly.
As for rules, there are always rules. Relationships of any type have rules.

one cannot discuss open relationships without reading the wonderful book by the equally wonderful Tristan Taormino…click here: http://openingup.net/
while i’ve met her a few times, i don’t know her well enough to be biased. i just know what she represents–freedom, communication and honesty and sexual expression. she’s smart, sexy and sweet. it’s crucial that anyone asking this question read her work and/or listen to what she says about the matter.
it’s difficult when a woman falls for a man who is hellbent on being OPEN if she doesn’t feel the same way. it’s unfair to her because she is settling to be with him and he of course doesn’t care. men who prefer to be OPEN are often selfish pricks about getting pussy whenever and however THEY want. it’s THEIR freedom that matters above all else. if a woman prefers monogamy, her feelings will get hurt. she will get jealous but he won’t give a shit. after all, HIS OWN NEEDS will always come first. so for me, “open” relationships are challenging and really about TALKING more than anything else because truly to be OPEN you must be honest and clearly state your boundaries.
again, read anything by Taormino. you won’t be disappointed.
