Note to Self: Respond to COMMENTS on your Youtube and WordPress

Leave Me Alone
Image via Wikipedia

I have been on the move in and out of projects and working a 9 to 5, and haven’t got a chance sit down and read my comments and respond to the folks that took the time to leave a comment.  That’s the same time I have been begging people to take, which is a simple 5-30 seconds to leave a comment to ask a question, respond to a post, or just to say hey I pass through.

I feel bad because I like to get back to people super fast and on time.  But I will definitely respond to all of them this weekend.  I don’t like to leave easy responses.  I like to interact and talk and really answer and response to key levels of others comment.  So I did have time respond, but not the way I wanted to.

It is very important respond to comments on your WordPress (in which we are at) and also your YouTube page (if you have one, and I believe EVERYONE should have one) via it’s helps you build and make new friends with strangers and especially your subscribers.  You want to know how they are feeling, what they like about your posts or videos to help better your skills.  It’s also fun and cool to check out their blogs and drop some comments, and see if there may be a bond or similar interest of you both.

Everyone wants comments and feedback, so make sure you go out and interact, and respond to your comments.  I need to follow my own advice.  I mean I do, I just need to do it faster or on a schedule.  Try to develop a schedule or routine to answer your comments or view others blogs or video pages.  I say (2) times a week is great start, but if SUPER BUSY, at least and nothing less than once a week and make sure you answer all you can or try to.

PS: This was written as a word of advice to myself and to everyone else at in the Blog-O-Sphere and Video-o-Sphere, get social and interact, respond you your comments.

Do you take the time to respond to your blog comments?  Do you get back to them in a timely manner?  Do you like to get comments on your blog or videos?

Thanks for reading
Richardo

  1. I agree with you … Especially since my blog is a really personal thing for me, so when people comment I feel like they care, and I like to show them that I appreciate the time they took to read it (especially since, when I started the blog, I thought NO-ONE would read it)

  2. Yes, I absolutely LOVE comments! When people leave their thoughts on my page, I am reminded that I have readers and that I am writing for someone, that I am heard in one way or another. When people tweet me or reply to my tweets, I feel happy because in some way, I believe I have met someone along the way. We may not have met, but it makes me feel that I have made a friend at some point. Therefore, I immediately respond to tweets or to comments on my page, even to comments on my comments on someone else’s blog. Conversations have to continue and are important for a fruitful dialogue. Therefore, I appreciate it a lot if the blogger whose post I have left a comment on responds. It makes me (and other readers) feel that our comments are well-appreciated. 🙂 I respect those bloggers a lot.

    1. It honors and humbles me when I get comments to anything I write b/c I do not get very many comments. When you get them they are golden nuggets of info on what vibration the readers/learners are on and what keeps them wanting to hear more. Thanks so much for reminding everyone why they should respond and why they should comment…synergy builds awareness! 🙂 AmberLena

  4. I love comments! I just do not get a lot of them, so it is easier to answer. I also always approve comments – I guess there have not been any too … shocking or obscene not to 🙂 In fact, this “approve” option lets a blogger to …well, manipulate the reaction to their posts, so I am not in love with it 🙂
I love your suggestion about developing a routine, I keep trying to do so, but this wordpress.com is sooooo addictive 🙂

    1. Well… I am glad that you can choose whether or not to approve comments. I wouldn’t remove/reject a comment due to any sort of disagreement, but it does let me get rid of the spambots that are just using comments on blogs to advertise a product.

Since I have a relatively new blog, I’m just getting used to all of this and have no subscribers, or comments (which is totally fine), but if my blog should ever grow, I’ll definitely keep this is in mind. Thank you!

  9. LOL, i don’t get a lot of commenst as my blog’s on a pretty niche subject. When i do get one it’s the highlight of my day, especially when it’s from a new person. On the flip side, i feel guilty that half the comments are mine. I feel like i’ve cheated. 🙂

And I want people to keep coming back for a visit, and replying encourages that. I’m not as good about replying on YouTube, though, but I’m not very serious about my video collection there.

  15. I always try to leave a comment when reading, just to show that I was there and have read the blog. I.e. that the audience exists. As for returning comments to my own blogs, always. Luckily for me my audience is small enough that I’m not overloaded with a staggering amount of data to read. (As I must imagine is happening to you as Freshly Pressed.) Answering comment to my left comments though, is where I need the practice. Going back to see if there’s a reply is something I hardly ever do.

  16. I do my best to always respond to comments left on my blog as soon as I’m able. It’s good manners, it’s great interaction and it shows an interest in your audience. It also shows interest in your own work. I mean, if you can’t be bothered to engage with the people who have taken the time to read your posts and respond, then are you really interested in what your doing?

I like to make comments on posts that interest me (hello, Richardo!) even if I may never visit the blog again (busy life, you know how it is). If the blogger doesn’t respond in kind, I’m not offended. There’s no point in commenting on a blog you’re not that interested in, just for the sake of it, or to try and increase the numbers on your own site. Trust that the right people for your blog will stick around.

Congrats on making it to Freshly Pressed. You must’ve used the right hook to get ’em in!

I like the simple things. There are many types of bloggers in the end, some who wants to be seen, who wants to interact, who wants to just rant, who wants to build and who just love to blog and meet others, so it’s hard to throw everyone in the same barrel. But I thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your opinion and view. I so appreciate it. If I don’t see you again, I am glad you came by today.

  18. The whole point of blogging — seems to me — is to have conversations with others. A lot of bloggers seem to think a blog is All About Them and turn it into a diary or journal of their private life, instead of something with larger meaning for others. When it works, people feel moved enough to say so, and a conversation begins — and a conversation has two sides! The thing I enjoy most about blogging are these exchanges, so I answer almost every comment, and quickly. Someone took the time to stop by, read and say something….that’s a compliment in itself.

    1. I agree. thanks for dropping by. Not everyone wants to interact or be social. Some bloggers like to rant and have a space of one’s own…So hard to determine who wants to be found and if found what they will do unless they invite us to comment and etc. But as someone who wants to have readers and meet others, commenting and replying is a must…I try my best.

If it isn’t your type and you just think it is written well or the blog setup is nice, than say it or star it. Even if you don’t come back. Congrats on FP. You blog is very neat and clean. I like it. 1. Yeah, it’s hard to get people to leave comments. I’m an ‘artist’ and I’ve been shit on by ‘professionals’ and it never bothered me. I get a decent amount of traffic a month (not really, but hey it’s double digits..) but not one of them has ever left a comment.

I don’t mind being told my work is bad, and I enjoy being told it’s good. Either way I’m gonna be creative or I’ll lose it. But it’s hard when no one seems to care enough to say it sucks. Like if it has a negative impact, it still had an impact on that person. But not getting any feedback at all makes it feel like the work is as boring as looking at a white wall.

A lot is probably due to my own lack of self promotion. Maybe I need to get out here more, post comments, etc.

Btw, I checked out your flikr. I like the shadows and facial expression of this one:

      2. Oh thank you for checking out the link, I really appreciate it. I see you have a thick shell based on people possibly not liking your work. I know personally how that goes. I am an music artist and its tough to get feedback. You just got to keep trying and being creative and always looking to get better. If you want feedback you need to switch up and find other ways to promo. Just asking people kindly and comment on others and try to make friends first giving comments, and surely down the line if they are decent enough they will do the same. It’s takes a while, so never give up and also when posting use GREAT and RELEVANT tagging, it truly helps, What kind of artist are you? Always be creative and be true to you at the end of the day always.

  25. Hey there. I appreciate your views. I reach out periodically to the people who comment on my blog for feedback and one key piece of feedback I received was to respond to the comments I receive on my posts. That should have been obvious to me, but for some reason it wasn’t. I’ve learned that this easy step could be vital to maintaining and increasing your readership.

I do have a question for you about the YouTube page that you say “EVERYONE should have”…I’m fairly low-tech so can you explain to me exactly what this is and why everyone should have one? Thanks!

    Like

    1. Everyone should have a Youtube, based on it’s a very useful tool for videos on the web. Its a place to learn, (how to videos), a place to watch videos of others around the world (music, comedy, reality tv), and its the new wave of media. Videos online is what is it all about. Access anytime you want it. Also it’s a great place you store your videos and interact and get feedback from others around the world. So go and give it a world, it wont hurt to try. Also you if you ever get bored or have writers block on your blog, you can always share a video from YouTube to your blog, and drop quick comments on what you are sharing.

Most people on my wordpress site are not combative but I get a lot of comments and spam and can separate them accordingly and answer them which I do every week. What’s hard is when it becomes a full time job and a lot of comments are the same so for those I take my hard core readers and answer those first however I do try and answer them all.

    Hard though.

    1. Yea Youtube vs WordPress is a different audience, feel and interaction. WordPress is more thought and opinion generated, and youtube is mostly to just comment and say what you feel in a short frame of time. It takes time to break in and find a routine. just look for a easy way to manage and reach out. It’s all for the best. trust me, it’s hard for me too, but you just got to love to do it. 🙂

  35. Hey! I saw the title and knew I had to look at this. I have a YouTube (I too believe everyone should have one!) and a WordPress. I really haven’t published anything on WP, but have been meaning to…
    I really should, but…
    UGH! EXCUSES EXCUSES!
But I try my best to respond to friend requests, replies on comments, etc.
    Thanks for the tips!

    1. That’s awesome you have a YouTube…it’s like my anytime I want tv, especially for music and comedy I love it. Don’t worry when you are ready to write and post you will rock on wordpress. remember you have to do much to post, just grab a video and share it and leave little comment. Same thing goes with photos.

  36. Hello there Richardo 🙂

Yes, when I chanced upon some other blogs, I’ll leave my “footprints”, just like what I’m doing right now. I love to receive comments and I assume every blogger loves receiving them too. And yes, I respond to all the comments I received. 🙂

Now I have another blogger to follow to keep my creativity going.

  38. Well, that is some great advice! I do this myself. Though sometimes it’s hard to do because of time but as you said they took the time to comment and rate the post or video and you owe them your rebuttal. Just remember the difference between constructive criticism and trolls. Don;t feed the trolls now hear?

    1. that’s like the rule of the internet…don’t feed them trolls. they are too greedy. lol. yea but everyone needs to have a tough skin and can take constructive criticism…that’s a goodf point. 🙂

  39. I once read a blog post that advocated for turning off the comment feature, saying that it is the lowest side of people that comes out in comments. I was surprised. Celebrity gossip page comments tend to be very nasty, but blogs normally get very nice comments.

    1. I hear you…celebrity and gossip blogs are not too great to be part of or build with…they tend to be spammed by self promoters and lots of negative comments. Just find simpler and a small blog and interact with them.

  40. I couldn’t agree more. Whenever I sign into my mail and see that I have a new comment on a blog or video, I always leave some sort of reply, even if it’s just thanking the commenter for stopping by. I know that whenever I make a comment I always check back to see if anything has been said in response to it; it’s just nice to be acknowledged, if nothing else.
    Discourse is key.

    1. well it’s not as simply as you think. Here are the major factors, Are you commenting on others? Are you being social and talking to other bloggers? do you invite your friends to check out your blog? are you writing great content and allowing honesty or helpful words to people who visit? Are you sharing via twitter and facebook? How often do you post and are you tagging great tags for your blog? these are the major facts to get visitors and influence others to comment. Also you must ‘Call to Action” in almost every post to Asking to kindly leave a comment or Ask simply what they think or like or you can do better.

if you are practicing these social, interactive and give to receive techniques, over time people will drop comments your way, and then its up to you to work to keep them coming back.

  42. It was the MJ picture that drew me in! (mayor fan)

I’ve been to blogs where the author don’t answer at all, just a bunch of comments. That is kind of disrespectful to the reader I think. The comment box is for you to interact with your readers, not only to be told how great your post was, how beautiful your hair is etc etc.

Have a great day 🙂 xoxo

    1. Oh yea, loves or should love MJ. Its so sad he past June 25 was the 2 yr anniversary of his pasting. It was a relative event that’s why I included it in the post. 🙂

I feel you on the no responds to comments, but you got to remember not all bloggers or so practice good etiquette or even worst don’t even know how to respond, based on the fact that people never thought they would ever get respond or don’t even check there fans, subscribers or visitors, in which is a fail to them, and for that they shouldn’t get any views or subscribers. It’s just how the world is. You as a person who wants to interact and build, just need to shell out the wack people and find better people and it will bring more positivity to your blogging. There are millions of bloggers out there…

But remember if you want good comments, you have to give to get. find a good 10 people and follow and comment with them, someone not TOO popular because popular TAKE AGES to respond or NOT AT ALL. start small and build.

  45. I always take the time to respond to comments; I may not respond the second I see them, but usually they are responded to within 24 hours. Comments are so important for bloggers; we all want them, yet sometimes don’t consider the impact it has when we don’t respond to the people who take the time to leave their thoughts on our blogs. It’s a joint venture. We can’t just get. We need to give and get in return.

    Like

    1. Hi Elizabeth.

Well its very hard to get comments to tell you the truth. Mass sharing doesnt work either. It helps but just views wise. Here is what you do…It’s my quick easy starter kit.

      1. Google “3 Forums” that is related to your topic. Make sure when posting blogs within 7 categories that you want to get comments based on. note: you can post anything you want, just based on what you want comments on your share.
      2. Start with twitter and facebook…find 3 friends that would comment and share you post there. By using note, and tagging and linking to your blog. when you tag in notes it goes on the wall so their friends will see on their walls when they visit.
      3. Use awesome TITLES for your post…Simple to the post but attractive so people will want to visit and express their views,

Test those out, and let me know.

  47. Does anybody have any advice on increasing comments or encouraging more vocal interaction?

I get a good amount of twitter shares, facebook likes and general hits. However, my page is generally void of any REAL conversation.

I know people are reading and visiting my blog on a regular basis, how can I encourage these people to leave their thoughts?

    1. you just got to ask for it, and make sure you share with others…well a lot of people and then it will start to happen slowing until you starting growing. Its all about sharing and interacting with people who wants to comment on your category of posting. Find those people or forums and comments will come.
