I speak for outside the USA, and from a political position which does not acknowledge that our ‘democratic’ processes are truly democratic, because they concentrate political power in the hands of a small minority with a narrow political focus, and all the ordinary citizen is allowed to do is to give away his or her autonomy once every four years. I am in favour of devolving democracy back downwards to the grass roots.
However, on a personal level, I like Barack Obama. He’s a decent guy and has had to put up with a whole heap of crap over the past four years (much of it due to the colour of his skin). I wouldn’t have voted either for him or for Mitt Romney if they had both been standing for Mayor of Toytown, but that’s a different matter.
